Japanese Style Tattooing Explained and My Processes.

Japanese Tattoos over the years have evolved in many ways and different styles have branched off from traditional methods. With these different art styles of Japanese tattooing the traditional fundamentals and rules still apply which I feel helps accentuate and flow over the body seamlessly.

Through out my time in tattooing I have experimented with all aspects of what I could tattoo and kept a very open mind trying to learn as much as I could, to which I found myself always being drawn back to the Japanese styles.

Over all, Japanese tattooing complements the persons body giving a first glance wow factor and then a deep dive into the complexity of simplest details.

Large Scale Tattoos

Large Scale projects with this style in my eyes one of the best ways to cover your body. The way both the Foreground and Background complements each other and creates flow over a Back Piece, Sleeve, Leg or if you are committed, a body suit.

Another side to Japanese tattooing is the subjects and stories you can implement into your piece There are thousands of Stories, Folk-laws, animals and Deities. Your choices are infinite and complement each other.

If you are more of the less complex subject matter, using basic Elements of Wind, Water and floral works amazingly to cover every inch of your body and still gives a timeless piece of art to your skin.

One shot tattoos.

If you are an avid tattoo collector and prefer the one and done method of pick and stick tattoos,

Japanese has you covered, As much as I love tattooing large scale, I thoroughly enjoy tattooing one shots as you get to start something and see the finished product at the end of the day. Whether it’s a palm sized Hannya mask or a thigh sized Dancing Geisha. These tattoos work great and can help fill an awkward gap. One shot Japanese style normally consist of a foreground subject with little or no back ground for an example you can do something like a snake by itself or flowers in front and behind giving it more depth and movement.

I hope this gives you a great understanding on my thoughts and process with how I like to compile my Japanese style of tattooing and if this is something that interest you for your next tattoo adventure hit me up on my Contact Form and come and see me at the beautiful Sunshine Coast or Follow my Instagram Lohtattoo page for travel dates and details!
